The Arakan Army (AA) and allied forces have been conducting offensives against the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) in the Ayeyarwady, Magway, and Bago regions since early 2025.

Following China’s intervention in April 2025, the State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC) regained control of Lashio. On June 15, 2025, it launched a counter-offensive on Nawnghkio, a town earlier seized by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).

The stretch between Kyaukme and Hsipaw is held by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP), while Hsipaw to Lashio is controlled by the TNLA, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), and State Security and Peace Commission (SSPC).

On September 20, resistance groups seized Banmauk town on the Kachin–Sagaing border, extending their control across the eastern, western, and southern parts of the township.

Raw rare earth minerals from mines controlled by the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) are currently exported to China via one formal border trade station and three informal border gates.

Out of 92 incidents of mass civilian deaths, defined as the killing of 10 or more civilians in a single event, 1,808 people were killed. Among them, 57 percent of these deaths were the result of the junta’s airstrikes.

Following Operation 1027, resistance forces captured significant territory, leading the State Administration Council (SAC) to lose control of 98 towns and several key outposts.

During the “10-month shock to the MAF,” from November 2023 to August 2024, the State Administration Council (SAC) suffered major territorial setbacks.

Four years after Myanmar’s military coup, the Karen National Union (KNU) and its armed wing, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), have established control over an estimated 61 percent of Karen State.

Since the 2021 coup, the Arakan Army (AA) has emerged as a major patron of Myanmar’s post-coup armed resistance. It has provided full or partial support—ranging from military training to ammunition—to at least 23 armed groups.

The Arakan Army (AA) now controls over 93 percent of Rakhine State’s territory, amidst its offensive quest to take all of Rakhine.
